'My Home, Shatila - Director's Cut' tells the story of Fadia, a 14-year-old Palestinian/Syrian refugee living in Shatila refugee camp in Beirut, Lebanon.

Fadia dreams of becoming a lawyer eventhough she knows refugees are not allowed to work in Lebanon. She is afraid of losing her own life or one of her family members because of the poor and dangerous conditions she is lving in.

Last March we joined Swiss NGO HEKS/EPER (https://en.heks.ch/changemaker) and local partner Najdeh on a trip to Beirut to film the dire conditions of the refugee camp.

About #Uniting4Climate at COP23:

World Bank’s Global Partnership Program, Connect4Climate is joining the Government of the Republic of Fiji’s incoming Presidency of COP23 in collaboration with Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, and other partners to present the #Uniting4Climate communications campaign.

The campaign is meant to highlight unity in support of climate solutions; countries, cities, regions, businesses, civil society and individuals are “Uniting for Climate Action.” In the lead up and during COP 23 (Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) partners will share messages, host events and showcase climate solutions under the #Uniting4Climate hashtag.

The communications campaign could include solutions to rising oceans and managing vulnerability, the opportunities in climate action, and how low-carbon resilient economies are being built through united actions. Partners are encouraged to share their climate actions and solutions in the lead up to COP23, promote events and activities around COP23, and emphasize the unity in climate action coming out of COP23 towards building a low-carbon resilient future.

Send Me Home Lyrics:
Wake me up
From this coma that is trapping me
Paralyzed from within
Solitudinal insanity
My mind is gone
My body aches from all the pain and suffering
I cannot take this
I will not let you have the happiness
Of watching me give in too this hell
I never got an answer
To what I'd done
To deserve this rain of hellfire
And as I try to end it everything turns to gray
Send me home
Oh god why, what have I done
to be betrayed, and left to rot
I swear I will purge, my demons out
And let them burn
I will not sacrifice my right to life
My cage will burn, burn it all to dust
I never got an answer
To what I'd done
To deserve this rain of hellfire
And as I try to end it everything turns to gray
Send me home
Send me

Hong Kong has the most expensive housing market in the world. For one million people living below the poverty line, one housing option is a "coffin home”. For US$250 a month, they get a space measuring one metre by two metres, too small to even sit up straight.

What does it feel like to live in such a confined space? We take you inside one of Hong Kong's coffin homes.

A refugee family from Myanmar expected to move into a house in St. Paul, Minn., this month. Furnished and full of toys, it will sit empty for a while. Look inside.

My Thoughts:
As you can see from my video a very emotional experience and one we need to always remember.

Game/Experience details:
Whilst questions about why the fire happened, who is to blame and what will happen next have barely been out of the news since last June, little is known about the people who called Grenfell Tower their home. Even less is understood about what it was like to live there, how people came to call it their home and what they have lost.

Grenfell: Our Home is a bold and innovative virtual reality film, which goes beyond the news headlines to bring to life survivors' stories. It offers a powerful, moving and genuinely original perspective as well as a sensitive and respectful record of what happened.

This film combines documentary interviews shot in 360 video with computer-generated animation to focus on important events and poignant every-day moments of the residents' lives. The documentary allows viewers to visualise and experience the survivors' memories of life before the fire.

The film was directed by Parable's Creative Director, Jonathan Rudd and executive produced by David Wise. The animation was designed and created by the award-winning 59 Productions and the music composed by the acclaimed Icelandic composer, Biggi Hilmars.

David Wise, Parable's CEO, said: 'Virtual Reality is often described as 'the empathy tool' for its ability to immerse and engage viewers so intensely in other people's stories and other worlds. The combination of 360 video and beautiful animation enables the telling of this important story in a way that no other medium can match'.

Siobhan Sinnerton, Commissioning Editor added: 'Innovation lies at the core of Channel 4's remit so we are delighted to be exploring new and interesting ways to deliver the very best storytelling and journalism. We hope this piece gives our audience a truly unique perspective on what the Grenfell community was like before the fire.'

The film follows a 22-year-old man, Aamir, who, whilst escaping the threat of murder in Sudan, begins a journey across Sudan, Libya, the Mediterranean, Italy and France.
The film demonstrates how VR and 360 technology can enhance the process of dramatic storytelling by placing their audiences in the shoes of another. The project was screened at the Sheffield Doc Festival (National Theatre) 2016 and continues to tour around the world.

“Home: Aamir is an entirely new type of documentary. It combines the production processes and storytelling techniques of theatre with 360 film to create a beautifully-crafted and deeply affecting virtual reality experience that takes you to the heart of the most important issue of the day – immigration – and makes you look at it with a fresh perspective and a depth of compassion rarely reached in traditional media.” Mark Atkin, Sheffield Doc Fest curator

The Hon. Prime Minister and COP23 President, Voreqe Bainimarama launched “Our Home, Our People” climate change Virtual Reality project in Fiji at the Suva City Library in Suva this morning. The Prime Minister said getting people to be more aware of the climate threat is a vital part of our nation’s education, which is why the Fijian launch today of the virtual reality film - Our Home, Our People - is so important. Virtual reality really is the best was to bring home the reality of the impact of climate change on the Fijian people - a 360 degree experience that is unlike anything else you will have ever seen. “It was one the highlights of the Fijian Pavilion at COP23, not only for the many thousands who passed through it but for him personally. He has urged as many Fijians as possible to try to see it. Because it is genuinely brilliant. He thanked the World Bank team that was behind this initia-tive, both for the production itself and for the way they worked so closely with the communities involved,” He also highlighted the key findings of a Climate Vulnerability Assessment carried out by a team from the World Bank and a team from our Ministry of Economy. The Assessment finds that by 2050, Fiji’s annual losses due to extreme weather event could reach 6.5 percent of GDP, with more than 32,000 people pushed into hardship every year. It also finds that over ten years, an estimate 9.3 billion Fijian Dollars will be needed to build resilience and the capacity to adapt climate change - almost equivalent to our entire climate change - almost equivalent to our entire GDP for a year. The VR film project was produced in the communities of Vunisavisavi (Cakaudrove, Vanua Le-vu), Namarai and Nabukadra, as well as Bayley Memorial School, Barotu (Ra Province and was a key part of the Fiji Pavilion at COP23. It has been seen by more than 600,000 people world-wide , including many global leaders at COP23 and was recently named as a finalist in the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Action Awards.

Speakers:
1) Fijian Prime Minister, COP23 President - Voreqe Bainimarama
2) Julian Wilson - European Union Ambassador to Fiji Ambassador
3) James Movick - Country Director, The World Bank

Virtual reality technology is helping improve the lives of dementia sufferers in Australia. Researchers trialing the technology in care homes say it keeps residents entertained and can help to calm them down.

Milford Grange Aged Care Centre in Brisbane is one of many care facilities across Australia trialing virtual reality as a recreational tool for residents.

"You see them start to relax, start to smile. They're looking at the dolphins and after it's finished the agitation is reduced," says Behavioural Support specialist Elisabeth Elder. It also helps those with dementia by stimulating their memory and exposing them to new experiences.
