Located in the easternmost reaches of Indonesia, the Bird’s Head peninsula is the global epicenter of marine biodiversity. Today home to vibrant, sprawling corals and a magnificent array of fish, just twelve years ago its ecosystem was being decimated by overfishing and other destructive practices. A decade-long conservation initiative has helped the local people protect these waters for the benefit of all humanity.

This is a clip from the virtual reality film “Valen’s Reef,” set in the Bird’s Head region, which will be available on June 20, 2016. Visit conservation.org/reef for more information and to be the first to see the full film when it’s available.

“Valen’s Reef” was created in partnership with leading virtual reality production company Here Be Dragons and made possible with support from The Tiffany & Co. Foundation.

Conservation International is grateful to work in close partnership with the people of West Papua, the government of Indonesia, The Nature Conservancy, WWF and more than thirty other partners.
Special thanks to The Walton Family Foundation for its long-standing support of the Bird's Head Seascape Initiative.
